FINANCIAL AID and FAFSA
NOTE: Financial Aid and the FAFSA process is going through some major changes for the class of 2024.
More information will be shared as it becomes available (late fall of 2023).
Financing a college education can be an overwhelming task. There are a HUGE variety of resources available to help. The following are the most reputable and reliable sources for assistance.
EDUCATIONQUEST
EducationQuest is a Nebraska-based not-for-profit foundation that focuses on college planning and the financial aid process for students and their families. Their website (www.educationquest.org) is an excellent resource for information on the financial aid process from preparation, applying, and making decisions. All of their services, including assistance in filing the FAFSA, are completely free to families. EducationQuest has a very good list of FAFSA resources all conveniently located on one webpage: https://www.educationquest.org/resources/fafsa-tools/
Get a FSA ID number
You must obtain Federal Student Aid ID numbers for electronic signature of your forms for the FAFSA and other documents. Prior to starting a FAFSA application, you must request a FSA ID number for both you and your parents, access the application for the PIN at fsaid.ed.gov
FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the official way to file an application for a variety of forms of financial aid. ALL students who plan to attend some type of post-secondary training (vocational, 2-year, 4-year...whatever!) need to fill out a FAFSA. Many schools require this before they will provide you any other scholarship information or awards.
Students can file a FAFSA for the next school year any time after October 1st using the previous year's tax information. Mrs. Sjuts recomends completing the FAFSA process before THANKSGIVING as this is a good way to ensure that you qualify for the maximum amount of aid and you do not miss any potential deadlines at any school you are interested in attending.
Make sure you access the correct website (www.fafsa.gov) for all FAFSA information and to complete an application. Any site that asks for payment for FAFSA or a related FAFSA service is not legitimate - this entire process is FREE.

CAMPUS VISITS
College Visits are an integral part of making a post-secondary training and education choice!
You can set up your own college visits, most often you can do this directly on each college or university admissions website. This is the easiest way to make sure the visit fits in your schedule and you sign up for the visit options that meet your needs the best.
Click HERE for tips on making your campus visit as successful as possible
You may get your college visit day excused by emailing Mrs. Sjuts at least 3 days in advance of your absence. (email can be from student or parent)

SCHOLARSHIPS
A current list of scholarship applications (updated November - April) available through Mrs. Sjuts is updated at this website:
CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP LIST
Most scholarship applications are available online. If you can access the application directly, the web address is listed for you. If the scholarship says "see counselor" this simply means that Mrs. Sjuts has a copy of the application form and will create a digital form for you to be able to fill out electronically on your computer. This way you can type directly onto the form and then print a copy for you to turn in on your own. This will assist you in having a polished application as well as be able to save the form. To request these forms, simply email Mrs. Sjuts the name of the applications you would like and she will email the forms directly to you.
This list is made up of the scholarship applications that are distributed directly to Mrs. Sjuts to be shared with you. Often, the most lucrative scholarships come directly from the college or program that you are planing to attend next fall. Since there are too many of these specific deadlines to keep track of for every school, and these opporutnies are rarely shared directly to counselors, you will not see every scholarship to every school on Mrs. Sjuts Scholarship List. Make sure you check the Scholarships or Financial Aid pages on the websites of ANY college you are still considering as those scholarships all have specific deadlines that vary.
SCHOLARSHIP QUEST
The best location to search for current and up-to-date Scholarship Applications available is SCHOLARSHIP QUEST, a free search service from EducaitonQuest. Students can create a Scholarship Quest profile to be matched with all of the scholarships they can qualify for. These scholarships are National, State, and Local scholarships, some of which are not sent to Mrs. Sjuts. EducaitonQuest also researches reputable scholarship sites and has a list of other great sites for you. Check out: SCHOLARSHIP QUEST for more information.
