High School Juniors and Seniors, who are at least 16 years old, can enroll in Early Entry College Credit courses through Central Community College.
These courses are for college credits and the usual purpose is that they can be transferred to another post-secondary college or university.
Central Community College has dedicated staff members to assist Early College students from DTHS. The CCC Early College Representative for DTHS is Jerry Dunn and he is an excellent resource who is more than willing to help in any step of this process!

What is the difference between types of "CREDIT"?
Lets take a moment to explain the difference between High School credits, College credits, and a merger of those two in Dual-Credit courses.
This is easily confused and this may help you (and your parents) in understanding the difference between types of credits available for registration.
High School Credits
College Credits
Dual-Credit
This is easily confused and this may help you (and your parents) in understanding the difference between types of credits available for registration.
High School Credits
- These classes must be taught following specific guidelines that count towards earning your High School Diploma
- The goal of these courses is general knowledge and exposure to material, you can think of it as an introduction, not end mastery.
- Credits can not be used towards a college degree
- Instructors (teachers at DT) must have a teacher’s certificate and be approved to teach the course
- No cost (free)
College Credits
- These classes must be taught following guidelines set by each college that count towards a college degree or certificate
- Instructors (professors) must have a master’s degree with specialization in the subject they are teaching (but do not have to have a teaching certificate)
- These courses assume that you have already taken high-school level coursework in this subject, thus they often cover different material than a high school course of the same name.
- Colleges charge tuition and fees for these credits (student must pay for)
- Often may have test score requirements to take course
- Can be taken in a variety of methods (online, distance learning (video conference), and in-person)
Dual-Credit
- These classes are taught to meet BOTH guidelines of a High School course AND a College Class at the same time
- Instructors must have BOTH a teaching certificate AND a master’s degree with specialization in the subject they are teaching
- There is a cost for the college credits (student must pay for)
- Often have test score requirements to take course
- Most often taught in-person or distance learning (video conference) as long as the instructor meets all requirements and license requirements for both college and high school courses
- DTHS offers Dual-Credit options during your SENIOR year English Composition and English Literature taught at DTHS. Other options can be explored but will be online course options and not taught by a DTHS teacher.
Courses are offered at Central Community College in two formats that are useful to DTHS students:
- In-person classes on a CCC campus. This is an excellent option if your DTHS schedule can allow for travel and course time or as a summer course.
- Independent online course thorough Canvas (CCC's online learning management program). If you enroll in any of these courses, DTHS allows you one class period to work on this course (although you will not get any grades or credit through DTHS for this class period).

DEADLINES
Each semester has different registration windows so please refer to the CCC Academic Calendar to keep on top of deadlines. CCC has a different calendar than DTHS, thus deadlines, start dates, holiday breaks, and the end of each semester does not match up with the DTHS calendar.
This calendar includes start date, end date, date to drop or add classes by, etc. for each semester.

Steps to sign up for Early Entry College Credits
through Central Community College
Although these courses are not offered BY Doniphan-Trumbull, Mrs. Sjuts can assist you in getting set up for these classes through CCC.
Just remember, Mrs. Sjuts does not work for CCC (ha!) so you need to handle all arrangements directly with CCC, she can just help you get in contact with CCC. Due to college policies, Mrs. Sjuts can not access your information as once you enroll you are considered a full "college" student with privacy rights.

#1 – Create Online CCC Account
If you have taken any other courses through CCC or filled out an application, you already have a CCC Account. You must have a CCC Online Account created before you can register for any courses or take any placement tests, even if you are going to take the ACCUPLACER with Mrs. Sjuts.
Complete the Online Account at: Create Online CCC Account
#3 – Complete and return the Early College Registration Form to Mrs. Sjuts
This is the form that finally gets you registered for classes at CCC. You can access this form HERE. Please complete the very top and bottom portions of the form (and have all signatures) before bringing it to Mrs. Sjuts.
Mrs. Sjuts can assist you in listing the appropriate class section information on your form in order to speed up the process with CCC. Mrs. Sjuts will turn in the form to our Early College representative at CCC, along with test scores, to get you registered for the classes you want assistance with this process.
#3 – You must have test scores on file at CCC for course placement
Only Math and English courses require minimum scores for course placement, other courses CCC simply needs to have scores on file for you to fully register. This requirement can be met with either ACT or NWEA scores.
Mrs. Sjuts can send ACT and/or NWEA scores along with your registration form directly to CCC for you if we have them on file at DT.
Test Score Requirement information for CCC courses can be found HERE
Additional information regarding Pre-Enrollment Assessments can be found HERE
#4 - After registering for your class, YOU (not your parents) will receive THREE pieces of information from CCC.
1 - (mail) A letter from the registrar with your ID card and login information to WebCentral (first time students only)
2 - (mail) A billing statement for the class costs (see below)
3 - (CCC email) A email from Support Services with detailed information on opening your course, textbooks, technical support, billing and payments, and Canvas training.
All communication regarding your class will be sent to your CCC email, you need to check this every day!
#5 - Access your online course materials via Canvas
All CCC online courses use their learning management system, Moodle.
Login instructions and assistance can be found HERE.
Multi-Factor Authentication Information can be found HERE.
#6 - Purchase required course materials (TEXTBOOKS)
College textbooks are not provided for courses, they are an additional expense. You can access textbook information through CCC at: www.cccneb.edu/bookstore. Mrs. Sjuts can also assist you in locating textbooks and DTHS has purchased a few textbooks for common courses; contact Mrs. Sjuts for more information about the possibility of borrowing a textbook.
#7 - Payment
After you are registered, CCC will send you a final bill for the course(s) you have registered for. All payments or arrangements must be made directly through CCC.
Tuition and fee information for Early College courses can be found HERE.
There are very limited scholarship opportunities for Early Entry Credits as scholarships and grants are commonly reserved for after high school graduation. The state of Nebraska does oversee a very unique scholarship opportunity called the ACE Scholarship. The Access College Early (ACE) Scholarship program assists with tuition and mandatory fees for qualified, low-income high school students to enroll in early college courses from Nebraska colleges. For more information and to start an application, visit: Nebraska ACE Scholarship
COLLEGE CREDIT TRANSCRIPTS
If you have taken college credits, you will need to request a transcript from that college to be sent on your behalf. Mrs. Sjuts does not have access to these transcripts to send on your behalf since those credits are awarded through the college campus so you must request them directly from the college that you took the college credits through.
